Privacy policy
This page is an interim version. Vivect is finalising its legal documents with our solicitor. The version below is effective until replaced. Version marker and effective date appear at the foot of the page.
1. Our approach.
Vivect handles personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), as amended. This policy describes what we collect, why, how we use it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. We collect only what we need to run the simulation you asked for, and we try to be straight about it.
2. What we collect.
When you run a simulation, we collect:
- Animal information you enter (name, breed, date of birth, weight, sex, desexing status, activity level, diet, any health notes).
- Location at postcode level only (not a street address), used to match regional climate and environmental data.
- An uploaded blood panel, if you choose to upload one. This is an optional input.
- An uploaded photo of your animal, if you choose to upload one. This is optional and only used if you enable the photo-analysis toggle.
- Your email address, if you choose to give it. You do not need to give an email to run a simulation.
- Technical information about your device and session (browser type, approximate session timing) for security and debugging. We do not collect precise location, advertising identifiers, or cross-site trackers.
3. Why we collect it.
We collect animal and environmental information to run the simulation you requested. We collect your email only for the specific purposes you consented to at the point of collection (delivering your longevity profile, or telling you once when the Vivect app launches). We do not use your email for unrelated marketing. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
4. How we handle uploads.
Blood panels: processed on-device wherever the browser or device supports it. Where server-side processing is required, the file is analysed and then purged within 24 hours. We do not retain copies.
Photos: analysed in a single pass to read body-condition markers (condition score, coat, visible indicators). The photo is then purged from our systems. We do not retain copies. We do not use your photo to train models. We do not use your photo for any purpose other than the single analysis pass you authorised.
5. Email and communications.
If you give us your email, we use it only for the purpose you selected. We do not send marketing communications unless you separately consented to receive them. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing does not delete your simulation record; to delete that, see section 7.
6. How long we keep it.
Simulation inputs and outputs: retained while your session is active, plus 12 months, so you can return to your results. After that, retained in de-identified form (no email, no identifying pet details) for model quality purposes.
Uploads (photos, blood panels): purged within 24 hours of analysis.
Email addresses: retained until you unsubscribe and request deletion. Unsubscribe alone stops communications; deletion requires a separate request to support@vivect.com.au.
7. Your rights.
Under the APPs, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct any personal information that is inaccurate.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Withdraw consent for any processing that relied on consent.
- Complain to us, and escalate to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you are not satisfied with our response.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@vivect.com.au. We respond within 30 days.
8. Automated decisions.
Vivect produces longevity estimates using an automated statistical model. You have the right to be informed that automation is involved, to request an explanation of how a given output was produced, and to request human review of an output. Email support@vivect.com.au.
9. Security.
We use standard industry security measures to protect personal information in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected users and the OAIC in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
10. Cross-border.
Vivect operates from Australia. Some of our infrastructure providers may process data in other countries (for example, web hosting). Where this occurs, we use providers that commit to protections comparable to the APPs.
11. Children.
Vivect is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
12. Changes to this policy.
We may update this policy as the product develops or as our solicitor reviews and replaces it. Updates are posted here with a version number and effective date. Material changes are notified to users who have given us an email address.
13. Complaints and contact.
